Questions
- Why does my GIF look grainy?
- A GIF can only hold a couple of hundred colors per frame, so a photograph or a gradient has to be approximated and can band. Flat graphics and line art come out clean.
- What happens to see-through areas?
- They turn white. A GIF cannot hold a partly see-through pixel, so every frame is flattened onto white first. Keep the frames as PNGs if you need that transparency.
- Can I make one from a video instead?
- Yes, with the video to GIF tool, which samples frames from a stretch of a clip. This one is for separate pictures, like an exported sequence or a slideshow you put together.
